Baldr? Forgive the early intrusion, but we have a serious problem.

[There's an awkward hesitation, and even an undercurrent of fear in Triton's voice]

The waters... they aren't responding to me. Even the Trident feels like it's gone dead in my hand. What the hell is going on?

[He's rubbing his eyes and attempting to see through the blur that is his vision without his corrective lenses. He pats the bedside table to feel for them and clears his throat.]

I don't know. I haven't even showered yet. [Pause.] What time is it? [Forgive his slow comprehension, Triton. He was up late and it's not time for him to get up yet.] Just... need you to stay calm right now, yeah? Hard is that is. Panic does no good here.

Easier said than done. I'm not much of a Sea King if I can't even hold control over my own domain.

Fuck. I know it's early, but, damn, I'm thinking I could really use a dr--

[He suddenly cuts off, leaving a long, stunned silence hanging in the air. A faint "How in the hell?" can be heard, as if at a distance. Soon, his voice can be heard at normal volume after some fumbling]

Something very strange is going on.

[He finally sits up, trying to be mindful not to wake Hel... even though she was likely woken up by the phone playing whatever random standard tune he'd picked for his mobile. His voice is thick with morning and the mostly awake but no coffee state of being.]

Considering you're having trouble with the water, I'd say so. What else is going on?

...There is a glass of bourbon on the table nearest me. It wasn't there a second ago. I didn't pour it, neither did Athena. It just appeared as soon as I thought a drink might be a good idea.

Wait... [Put glasses on... think more clearly, somehow.] Isn't that Dion's trick?

[On Triton's side of the conversation, Athena's voice can be heard, because she's drifting into the room.]

Who are you talking to?

Yes, I suppose so. It's been a while since I spent time around him. So why is alcohol showing up around me and not him?

[ACTION]
[He waves at Athena and mouths "Baldr."]

[She nods and then wanders slowly closer. If he was calling Sean this early in the morning, something was up.]

[He points to the glass on the table and gives her an exaggerated shrug to show his confusion as to its origins. He's still very worried about his sudden lack of sea powers, which shows in his expression, and him running his fingers through his dark hair, making it even more tousled, but he smiles at her as she approaches. She looks pretty today. Really pretty. Did he just lick his lips upon seeing her? ...maybe...]

[She's still in her pajamas and hadn't even brushed her hair yet. So she'd probably give him a weird look if he said his thoughts out loud. She shakes her head when he shrugs about the glass. She didn't know what was going on either. She wanted to be near him, comfort him, and the idea seemed exactly right the closer she got to him. Besides he looked amazing all rumpled like that.

She came up beside him and giving in to the impulse, ran her fingers through his hair.]

And why have you suddenly lost control of the water? [He groans as he forces himself out of bed. Soon, there is the sound of running water, followed by the unmistakable sound of Sean gasping.]

You've got to be kidding me...

I don't know. I--what's wrong? What happened?

[While he's talking, his arm curls around Athena's waist like it's the most natural thing in the world. Actually, when they're alone, it's not all that unusual. Absently, he runs his hand up and down her back.]

Well it's the Sol- [She cuts off mid-thought, immediately concerned. And at no point does she stop touching him; petting his hair, stroking down his neck, along his shoulder, and then back in reverse.] Is he all right?

[He continues to stroke her back for a bit, bit soon his hand is absently playing with the hem of her shirt]
I think so. He doesn't sound hurt.

[Phone]
Baldr? You are all right?

Oh, that's good.

[The statement works on two levels. She leans the line of her body against Triton, and bends to nuzzle softly at his neck.]

[The water is shut off, but there is the sound of it splashing around, and random whispering of Baldr with phrases like, 'nofuckingway'.]

I uh... Heh. I think I know what happened to your powers...

[There's a long pause, all the while with his lightly fingering the skin just under the hem of Athena's shirt

...Please tell me you're joking.

Trust me, if I were, I wouldn't have told you for that comment alone.

Fuck. All right, all right. At least it's better you have them than someone else. Do you think you can handle them?

Uh. [Pause as he does another weird test run.] Well. Don't make me part the seas. I've really only succeeded in flooding the bathroom floor and my pants. So take that as a no.

[He makes a vague noise of exasperation]

Can you at least not destroy anything with them?

[Mutters something about towels.] I wasn't planning on it. And anyway, I think I'm reasonably safe as long as I stay in the house.

Good. Don't break any pipes or anything. And be careful what you say.

[He raises an eyebrow, as if to ask himself how many pipes he was going to go looking for to break open... but even he knows it isn't that simple.] To the public? Of course. You know me better than that.

No, no... You don't understand. It's not as showy as the waterworks, granted, but my voice alone carries power that makes people listen. and now, they'll shut up and listen to you.

[An agitated Triton was rarely a good thing, and despite the fact that he was in the phone and it was important, Athena's instinct was to soothe or distract him. So she gently nipped at his neck before soothing it over with the tip of her tongue. That's distracting, right? ]

[His immediate reaction is to pull her tightly against him, one long line of his body against hers, and, yes, Athena, certain reactions are becoming evident. He softly nuzzles her in return]
