OK, so... Has anyone been following the whole GamerGate fiasco? For anyone not up to speed, they're a legit hate group that started online, and is threatening women in the gaming industry and gaming press with rape and death threats, among other things. It's not good. And they're not going away just yet.

I don't really know how, but the bastards found me. I keep getting harassing emails. They've at least doxxed where I work, but I don't know if they have my home address or not.

...and I don't know how, but they know I'm a godling. It's... it's really ugly, guys. I don't want to give up my job or have to move, but... I'm getting worried.

I appreciate the offer. Problem is, these guys work anonymously, so I can't direct you to the person needing to be broken.

I'm not a computer guy, so excuse me if I come across as ignorant, but couldn't you hack 'em, use a virus or something to find out where they are?

It's not that easy. Some of the IP addresses ping back things that we really don't want to mess with. Like government things and big corporations. And I've seen a few where they ping back several different locations, so we can't pinpoint them. It's a big network, and it makes fighting a Hydra look like a piece of cake.

Besides, I'm just a code monkey. Hacking is a whole different animal.

So far. And no one's physically shown up, although I've gotten some weird looks from a few coworkers. I... really hope they aren't part of the mess.

I'm not the first, either. Other women have been threatened and driven into hiding too.

I work for a video game company in Seattle. I do some puzzle-game writing, but mostly I do coding. Make sure the engines run smoothly, fix bugs, things like that.
