Hello. I got tired of deleting the email from my inbox and this seemed to be the only way to get it to stop. I'm not entirely sure what comes next but I hope it doesn't result in more random emails from mysterious sources. Is there a next step to this or am I free to reclaim my internet connection again?

Yes, that's right. I'm three hours behind. Of course, my schedule is a little erratic, having an infant, so I tend to be up at odd hours.

Would sometime this weekend be good? I don't have any classes.

Alright, I follow. The Greeks had the Styx and we had the Duat. Is this what is guarding our whatever it is? Like a magical moat?

I guess so. A guy can only hope to be lucky enough and smart enough to realize it.

I look forward to meeting them all. And the adults, of course.

Me, too. That is, I tend to be up at odd hours. Not that I have an infant obviously. I don't sleep that much and Simba jumps on my head at 5am whether I like it or not, anyway.

"Simba"?

My cat. I found him in the alley when I moved into this apartment last year and started feeding him until he decided to adopt me.

I let my class name him. ~~Sort of.~~

Oh, how adorable! I've got a Balinese named Delilah.

I bet she's a lot prettier than poor Simba. I love him completely but even I can't say he's a handsome cat. On the other hand, he has real personality.

Does Delilah object to you paying attention to your writing? And other things?

Oh, yes, she's beautiful. She's my little fur-baby. And very protective of Alex.

She only objects if she feels she's not getting her dues for attention. Then she likes to jump right up on whatever I'm doing.

That sounds about right. Simba has declared war on my guitar so I have to keep it in the closet when I'm not using it and give him catnip before I use it. He doesn't seem to mind the piano, though, and he deals with the computer by sitting across my wrists.

I bet it's a relief that she loves Alex so much.

[She nods]

Oh, yes, please. Mother will be here too. Won't you come join us?

That sounds like a cat, all right. And, yes, it really is. Some cats don't take well at all to children, but those two do get along.

I would love to. *He nods solemnly back but his grin is warm.* I'll get the information from your mother and I'll see you on Saturday. It's a promise.

No... I don't think the Duat itself is guarding anything. But I think whatever is draws power from it.

I'm sure you will eventually. The people who brought us all together here do have a way of... enabling in-person contact.

Yeah, comes as a shock to some, I'll give you that. I think it'd be hardest on the families, though. Some have families in on it, but most of us don't.

At least the vet tells me he's a cat. Some days, I'm not quite sure that Simba isn't a linebacker Gremlin. But he's my boy so I spoil him.

Does she try to sleep with him?

[There is an attachment on this note, a small-sized audio file that opens up into a short lullaby-like tune. Maybe about 90 seconds, simple, piano driven, with a low masculine hum just below and behind the notes. The hum eventually stops and piano notes slow until, just before it cuts off, there is the sound of a soft questioning meow, Oh, Simba.]

That sounds dangerous. Would there be a way to damn the Duat or reroute it to our own banks?

I think I will opt for keeping my family out of it. That just leaves me with the challenge of coming up with a good reason to keep my little sister from talking her way into us being roommates.

[Ivy nods again]

[She is gently shooed off by her mother]
Well. Sounds like we have an engagement, dear lad. Here's the information. [Aphrodite gives him her phone number and address] I'll make sure the doorman knows to expect you. Penthouse suite, of course.

[Oh... music... Heart... skipping... beat... And the meow just totally makes it. XD]

She usually prefers to sleep in a chair. Sometimes underneath the crib.

*And he will, complete with treats for the kids and a hostess gift for Dite. His mama raised him right.*

That doesn't sound ominous at all. Not at all.

I doubt it. And certainly not from the mortal side of things.
