My job keeps me near the equator a lot, so I tend to miss out on the change of seasons that places further north experience. I am thinking of taking a little time off next month and maybe get away somewhere further north for a few days. Any suggestions for where to go to experience the best of Autumn?

New York is full of fun things, of course, but you don't get the color changes in the city that you do elsewhere, unfortunately. Back in my home state of PA, though, I can heartily recommend the Poconos for some gorgeous foliage.

There are some absolutely charming little B&Bs and towns. I suppose it all depends what you're in the mood for.

Charming B&Bs offer things that resorts don't sometimes. It's all about flexibility.

Exactly. You get some perfectly personalized touches. Of course, this also has the downside that someone always has a good idea of what you're up to. ;)

Pennsylvania also hosts a National Apple Harvest Festival in October, I believe, and there's a PumpkinFest in Confluence that should be coming up soon. If you'd prefer somewhere outside of the United States, I hear the Great Masurian Lakes of Poland are lovely this time of year, as is Hokkaido, Japan.

Every now and again, it's nice to enjoy more rustic charms. I'm sure you'll find one that will delight you.

I'll warm you up the same way I do Mel. Hot baths and warm beds.

You can't keep me wrapped up 24/7, Sunshine. The drafts get in.

The Washington contingent seems welcoming. I hear Maine is really nice for the full autumn experience.

I'm from Maine, so I can say that yes, fall is definitely great there.
