Yeah, afraid so. The very first oghams were written in blood, for the reasons you cited earlier: blood has power. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up well to elements. I used ink and carvings for the next batch.
You'd be amazed how hard oral tradition can be to keep constant, especially under the influence of heavy drinking. So, I thought it would be great if there was a systemized way to standardize it all. So, I took some trees, created symbols that could be put together to reflect the different sounds--I wanted a syllabary at first, but then decided an alphabet would be simpler.
